Wayne Rooney says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be given the Manchester United manager’s job full-time.
United and England’s all-time top goalscorer spoke exclusively to talkSPORT and hailed his old teammate for transforming the mood at Old Trafford.
United have won 15 of 19 matches since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in mid-December.
“He has gone in with simplicity and has brought belief back to the fans,” said Rooney, who scored 253 goals for the Red Devils and won five Premier League titles and the Champions League with the club.
“He has made the place enjoyable again to go into work every day. The staff around Carrington are enjoying working there again and that does rub off.
“When you see the staff happy around the players, it makes it a happy environment to work in.

“He is doing a fantastic job and I’m sure he is the only candidate for Manchester United to take that job.
“It will be great to see him get it and bring some of the players he wants to bring in and keep moving the club forward.â€
Rooney, 33, also revealed his own ambitions to become a manager and said he is in the process of earning his coaching badges.
He said: “It is something I want to do and am passionate about. It is what I know.
“It would be a shame to have the career I have had as a player and not to try and take that knowledge and experience into management and give it a go. That is what I want to do.
“The plan for the next few years why I’m still playing is to try and get my badges complete and put myself in a position when I do finish playing that if I can take an opportunity if it does come up.
“It is something I will certainly have a go at and hopefully I can be successful at it.â€
