Eden Hazard to Real Madrid? Chelsea star ‘too good’ for club, says Jamie Carragher after watching display vs West Ham

Eden Hazard is ‘too good’ for Chelsea, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes.

The Blues’ star player was magnificent in his side’s 2-0 win against West Ham on Monday night, which saw him score twice, including a brilliant individual goal.

His displays have seen him linked with Real Madrid where his childhood idol, Zinedine Zidane, is now manager and Carragher thinks the forward should be at a club the size of Los Blancos.

“I almost feel like Hazard has to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona,” he told Sky Sports. “He’s that good that he has to play at that level.

“I think Hazard is too good for Chelsea, right now. He’s that good a player.”

Hazard has scored 16 times in the Premier League this season, recording 12 assists, too, meaning he has been directly involved in almost half of Chelsea’s 2018/19 goals.

And Carragher likens his importance to that of Luis Suarez at Liverpool, who he played with before the striker joined Barcelona in 2014.

Carragher continued: “I wanted him [Suarez] to stay, but I knew in my head. This was something I spoke about with Steven Gerrard when he nearly went to Arsenal.

“We actually said, ‘You’re too good for Arsenal. If you’re going to leave, you have to go to Barcelona’. I think Hazard is one of the best players in the world, and the best players in the world play for your Madrids and your Barcelonas.

“He’s won leagues with [Chelsea], but I think for him as an individual player, he needs to have a Madrid on his CV over the next three or four years to finish that career.”

Both Carragher and his Sky Sports colleague, Gary Neville, acknowledge it will be a sad day when Premier League fans can no longer watch him every week.

“Once Real Madrid start getting linked with the player, and so strongly, and there’s body language that suggests that Hazard wants to go, you really do feel this could be his last five Premier League games.

“That’s a real problem for the Premier League as we keep losing our best players to Real Madrid and Barcelona.”

Hazard has a year left on his current contract, but it is thought Chelsea will demand interested clubs pay £100m for the 28-year-old.

His manager, Maurizio Sarri, knows it will be difficult to hang onto him. “I cannot do anything, I think, because the club agrees with me: if Eden wants to have another experience, it is very difficult to keep him,” he said.

Chelsea’s win against West Ham moved them into third place in the Premier League where they are now two points ahead of Tottenham, though Spurs have a game in hand over the Blues, as do both Arsenal and Manchester United.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher risked incurring the wrath of Chelsea fans by insisting that Eden Hazard is "too good" for them, and should be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
