Leeds: Marcelo Bielsa paid ‘spygate’ fine from his OWN POCKET and will also cover costs of Aston Villa drama

Marcelo Bielsa has revealed he personally paid Leeds’ fine after the ‘spygate’ saga – and promises to do the same for any financial sanction following the drama against Aston Villa.

The Argentine refused to let the club foot the £200,000 bill from the FA after he admitted to sending spies to watch the Whites’ opponents before matches.

Leeds are set to receive another fine after being charged with failing to control their players during a chaotic clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

A mass brawl broke out between the two sides after Mateusz Klich scored while a Villa player was down injured, before Bielsa allowed the visitors to go up the other end and score unopposed.

And now Bielsa has promised to take any financial hit on behalf of the club because it is ‘his responsibility’.

During an extraordinary press conference on Friday, the 63-year-old said: “As we are clarifying things I think it’s important to add two things not linked to this subject.

“The sanction I received that the federation (the FA) gave us – £200,000 – it’s a financial sanction the club received not against me, but I am responsible for it and that’s why I paid from my pocket the sanction.”

It’s not the first time Bielsa has offered a financial hand to his employers.

He donated £1.9m to Newell’s Old Boys last year to help them build their latest training facility – because he felt indebted to his former club in Argentina.
