Crystal Palace have condemned the racist abuse of a club doctor in a ‘disgraceful’ incident which took place before their final day defeat of Bournemouth.
Dr Zafar Iqbal on Sunday said he was abused by a three-year-old prior to the match, with he and two of his children called ‘Pakis’ close to Selhurst Park.
“Devastated and speechless,” Dr Iqbal wrote on Twitter. “Taking my 2 youngest kids to their first ever game at Selhurst park and walking a few hundred yards from the stadium a 3 y old shouted to his dad – ‘Look daddy there’s some Pakis’. His dad ‘attempted to scold’ him.”
The former Liverpool and Tottenham doctor went on to write about how ‘such behaviour is normalised’ in modern society.
Crystal Palace have since released a statement offering their support to Dr Iqbal.
